Maxim Vengerov’s injury-induced sabbatical in 2008 was a great loss the music world. At the time, there was even speculation that it might be permanent. It seemed so tragic, one of the greatest exponents of the the instrument bowing out in the prime of his life.
It is with great joy and not a little relief, therefore, that I read of his comeback concert at Wigmore Hall. How wonderful to know that we will be able to hear him again!
I’ve been a fan ever since I first heard him at the Barbican in 1999.
His masterclasses are such a joy to watch as well:
The word’s out that the “new” Vengerov’s playing is perhaps a little more restrained, more cautious. Hopefully I’ll soon get a chance to decide for myself.
Be that as it may, it’s great to have you back, Maestro!
