We were driving back from Baga yesterday night (11 pm), and somewhere near the Calangute Tinto, we noticed some stones had been placed on the road; as we drove nearer, we realised that they had been placed to protect a stray dog that had been hit by a speeding car, just 30 minutes earlier. The shopkeepers nearby had placed the stones, and offered the animal some water, but didn’t know what else to do.
I happened to have the numbers of PAWS and Animal Welfare Society on me, but it was past their office hours, I guess, so there was no response. While I was doing all this, the animal somehow staggered to its feet, and disappeared into the shadows.
I’m writing to ask if anyone of you knows what to do in terms of arranging animal rescue, or treating an injured animal?
This is the info I have so far:
PAWS Panjim Animal Welfare Society(tel number 2225850) 9.30-12.30, 2.30-5 pm. They cover only the area governed by CCP (Corporation of the City of Panaji), apparently.
IAR International Animal Rescue (tel numbers 2268328, 2268272) 8.30am-5.30 pm. they cover all of North Goa.
Animal Welfare Society, Torda. The number I have doesn’t seem to be operational 2416180. If anyone has an update about this, and what facilities they provide, it would be very helpful.
Goa Animal Welfare Trust. Covers South Goa 2759849 (Sonsoddo), 2653677 (Curchorem).
Any additional information will be greatly appreciated.
I have found that a lot of the time, members of the public do want to stop and help, but they do not know what to do. So a reliable information base that can be passed on to the public, will go a long way.
